Ian Cartabiano

Ian Cartabiano is President of Calty Design Research based in Newport Beach, California. Working with Toyota Motors Corporate headquarters, Ian oversees Calty’s work on advanced, concept and production design for the Toyota, Lexus, GR and Century brands.

After graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., Ian joined Calty’s Newport Beach studio, where he took part in a variety of high-profile projects, including playing a leading role as Chief Designer of the Eyes on Design award-winning Lexus LF-LC Concept and Toyota C-HR. Other notable projects he led include the 2018 Toyota Camry, which he designed while on assignment at Toyota’s headquarters in Japan, and the Toyota Concept-i, Toyota FT-4X and Lexus LF-1 Limitless concepts.

In 2018, Toyota took his talents to the French Riviera assigning him to direct ED2 (Toyota Europe Design Development) as President and Design Director. There, he was responsible for the Lexus LF-30 Electrified Concept, Toyota Aygo X, the Car Design Award winning Toyota EV Compact Cruiser, Toyota bZ Compact SUV Concept, 2024 Toyota C-HR and the groundbreaking Toyota IMV Zero.

In the summer of 2022, Ian returned to Calty as Vice President of Advanced Design where he oversaw the Toyota Land Cruiser Sport EV and FT-3e Concepts for the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show, until he was promoted to President in 2025. He most recently oversaw the Lexus LS Micro, Lexus LS Coupe, Lexus House and Hub concepts for the 2025 Japan Mobility Show.
